Abstract
The bending of a partially supported, nonhomogeneous elastic beam is studied by means of variational inequalities. Properties of the contact set are obtained along with the continuous dependence of the displacement on the load. Eventually, for a wide class of external forces we give an explicit formula for the contact set and prove further properties for the solution.
