Abstract

[Machine translation] Normative data on the semantic representations of artefacts. This paper presents a set of semantic norms collected to investigate the conceptual properties of 14 artefacts, with a particular interest in the semantic aspects related to action and to artefacts’ affordances. Data are acquired through an online survey, in which participants are asked to describe the meaning of 14 Italian words denoting artefacts (such as brocca, “jug”, tazza, “cup”, mestolo, “ladle”), by writing a list of properties for each stimulus (property generation or feature listing task). The properties produced by informants undergo a process of normalization and semantic classification. A first distributional analysis of the features is provided, which indicates possible directions for future works.
