Abstract

[Machine translation] The essay — published as part of a Festschrift in honor of Ambrogio Artoni, professor of media anthropology at the University of Turin for many years — analyzes, starting from some suggestions contained in the volume “Il Teatro degli Zanni. Rhapsody of art and surroundings” by Artoni himself, some symbols present in the wooden choir of Pollenzo. In particular, the figure of “Panozio”, the “all ears”, a typical anthropomorphic monster figure of medieval folklore, whose iconographic history and symbolic meaning are reconstructed, from ancient sources to the sixteenth-century creation of the choir of the Staffarda Abbey, from which the Pollenzo stalls come from, are analyzed.
