Abstract
[Machine translation] Italian cities are profoundly transformed by immigration. Not only in the demographic composition, but also in the way of experiencing public space, in the relationships and forms of aggregation between citizens, in the challenges for local governments. In this metamorphosis, the neighborhood is the key dimension, the level at which abstract concepts, such as that of integration, are translated into concrete experiences, into feelings of novelty or strangeness, into new forms of cooperation or conflict. The volume, the first piece of a larger research program (www.concordiadiscors.eu), studies in the field how Italian cities change as the mobility and cultural heterogeneity of their inhabitants increase. Through an interdisciplinary journey through four districts of Turin, Milan and Genoa, Concordia Discors seeks to answer a crucial question: why, in some places, does integration between groups of different origins occur without trauma, while elsewhere, perhaps a few blocks away, emerges as a serious problem?
