Comment on "Copeptin in heart failure: Review and meta-analysis" by Zhong Y et al.

Research output: Contribution to journalArticlepeer-review

Abstract

Heart failure (HF) is a burdensome disease with a wide spectrum of clinical manifestations; its diagnosis and the risk stratification are challenging, especially for emergency physicians. Our manuscript speculates the potential role of biomarkers (natriuretic peptides and copeptin) and clinical parameters as diagnostic and prognostic factors in HF patients in light of several recently published articles, including “Copeptin in heart failure: Review and meta-analysis” recently published by Zhong Y et al. on Clinica Chimica Acta. We think that in the emergency setting copeptin may be not superior to natriuretic peptides or to clinical tools in identifying low-risk patients, however, copeptin could play an important role in identifying intermediate and high-risk patients, especially when its time-course from hospital admission to discharge is assessed.
