Abstract
[Machine translation] The article presents a review of the main acquisitions in the field of Piedmontese and Aosta Valley Christian archeology in the period 1993-2023, taking stock of the state of knowledge on episcopal complexes, suburban churches and local complexes (baptismal and sanctuaries). It is proposed as a reasoned synthesis of the Christian structuring of space in a large sector of the Italian north-west, with a view that focuses on architectural aspects, but expands to embrace topographic considerations and design culture. A very complex landscape emerges, which the intense excavation activity of the last three decades in particular has helped to redefine and sometimes to change in a very profound way in relation to previous knowledge., On a methodological level, the review aims to problematize the data presented, discussing some interpretations suggested by excavators and analyzing the value of the chronology and function indicators of the examined contexts., The contribution was presented at a forum to compare the experiences of Christian archeology gained on a national scale over the last thirty years (XII National Congress of Christian Archaeology) and, in this framework, constitutes a term of comparison for different regional areas, neighboring and not. At the same time, given the border position of Piedmont and Valle d'Aosta, the examination may also represent a useful reference for the study of the mechanisms of Christianization in the territories beyond the Alps.
