Abstract
[Machine translation] The volume, the result of the collaboration with Mauro Zonta (University of Rome, La Sapienza, responsible for the critical edition and translation of the Arabic text) provides the critical edition and scientific commentary of the texts of Alexander of Aphrodisia on Providence in Aristotle, transmitted, partly in Greek, partly in more than one Arabic translation. This is the second critical edition of Greek texts, the first dating back to 1892, and it was conducted directly on the manuscripts, after an original investigation of them. The different Arabic versions were compared by the authors, with each other and with the Greek sources to reconstruct as much as possible the lost Greek original of the treatise Peri pronoias by Alexander. The authenticity of the treatise itself is demonstrated by Fazzo more fully in the essay published in Aevum 2000. The introduction contains an original essay by Silvia Fazzo on Alexander of Aphrodosia as a commentator on Aristotle per excellentiam.
