Abstract
[Machine translation] The study presents the preliminary results of a larger research work on the topic of the migratory phenomenon and its processes of territorialization. Italy is faced with the rapid aging of the population, which while on the one hand the increase in life expectancy notes the increase in life expectancy, on the other hand, highlights low birth levels. According to ISTAT (2024a), life expectancy in 2023 was estimated at around 80.6 years for men and 85.1 for women, while the birth rate fell below 400 thousand. In this context, migrations can play an important role because the arrival of working-age migrants with a greater propensity to have children, could not only partially mitigate the decline in the population, but also guarantee economic and social revitalization. The article analyzes the relationship between aging and residential mobility among foreigners in those territories defined as “Internal Areas” (National Strategy for Internal Areas, SNAI, established by article 1 of the 2014 stability law n. 147/2013). Starting from the reflection on the relationships between peripheral territories and urban contexts, the study focuses on the issues of aging, mobility and human and social capital.
