Abstract

[Machine translation] The essay is dedicated to the exegesis of D. 33.7.17.1 (Marcian. 7 inst.), in which Marciano reports an opinion by Aristone, according to which the legacy of 'instrumentum piscatorium' would also include the 'naucellae piscium capiendorum causata'. The indications offered by various literary sources and from two wrecks of fishing boats brought to light by archaeological research, allow us to hypothesize that the 'naucellae' mentioned in the Marciano pass are special boats equipped with watertight boxes filled with seawater for transporting live fish from the sea to places of sale and consumption.
