Abstract

[Machine translation] Gianpaolo Fassino's essay — Dinner with Dirce. Sustainable tourism and gastronomy in the Pesaro area — analyzes from an ethnographic and anthropological perspective the experience started in 2005 in Belvedere Fogliense, a hamlet of Tavullia, a town in the Pesaro hinterland, right on the borders between Marche and Romagna, in an “internal area” located not only geographically, but also culturally and economically poised between the Apennines and the Adriatic. The Dirce evoked in the title of the essay is the fictional name given to the imaginary character who offers his generous hospitality by animating, in the homes of Belvedere and other countries in the area, “family dinners”, organized annually on a date close to the calendar deadline of November 12, the feast of Saint Martin. This is a significant and original — and, in many ways, a forerunner — experience of how resident communities can participate, in an active and creative way, in the design and implementation of innovative tourism practices.
