Abstract
[Machine translation] To what extent did the events of 1956 constitute a break in the history of the 20th century? The volume aims to reflect - even critically - on the idea of 1956 as a “watershed year”, keeping together historical reconstruction and historiographical debate, and focusing on the link between national events and the international events that followed one another in that year, from the crises within the Soviet bloc to the setback suffered in Egypt by Anglo-French colonialism. From the 20th Congress of the CPSU to the “events of Hungary”, from 1956 in Poland to the Suez crisis, the Italian and European consequences of global events and processes have been retraced - with particular attention to political cultures.
